our Story

Greg and Kathye Balmes have owned Deerfield Cyclery for the past 35 years. They are passionate about family, community, and cycling. They have worked hard to align their passions with their store’s philosophy.  Deerfield Cyclery caters not only to the experienced and professional riders, but also to families and to the novice riders as well. 

 

Greg Balmes is a certified USA Cycling Coach, a Level I Bike Fitter, a Hammer Nutrition Specialist, former President of Colavita Chicagoland, and an avid cyclist. Greg offers his knowledge and expertise in order to promote wellness through cycling.

 

Greg and Kathye are honored to have such a dedicated and hardworking staff alongside them. They are joined by Store Manager and Head Mechanic, Dusty McAdams.

Family and Community are at the heart of Deerfield Cyclery. Greg and Kathye are honored to be part, and to actively support, such awesome local communities.

Holy Spokes Bicycle Ministry:

Have an old bicycle that you do not want anymore? Deerfield Cyclery accepts used bicycle donations year-round. Holy Spokes works to establish a faith based bicycle mentoring program in underserved neighborhoods, providing youth the opportunity to clean and fix bikes for themselves and for other families that are in need, while reinforcing core life values in the process. Greg is honored to be a mentor for the Holy Spokes Bicycle Ministry.
